William Basso’s “Conglomerate” at Last Rites Gallery.
Opening on Friday, October 6th, 2017 at Last Rites Gallery in New York City, New York is artist William Basso’s solo exhibition “Conglomerate.”
Last Rites explains: “This series weaves together Basso’s many differing disciplines with creative alchemy resulting in imaginary entities. His ideas emerge instinctively out of his subconscious and organically into his work. The term conglomerate describes a larger unique whole deceptively formed by smaller distinctive parts, as well as the motif for Basso’s new body of work. His inorganic forms live theatrically, trapped in a flux of what they encompass, decorated by small distinctive details, and with unique traits that indicate humanoid creatures; these creatures hint at a fantastical reality with its own traditions that reap their dark nature in secrecy. Basso’s estranged characters inhabit eternally decaying settings lending credence to William’s love for east coast autumns, a season that reveals its macabre beauty in the patient death of all organic life. Of course autumn hosts Halloween in American culture, and Basso is no stranger to incorporating its decorative spirit into the macabre world he conjures.”
“Conglomerate” will be on view until October 21st, 2017.
